Bitpay has announced they are limiting where you can spend your cryptocurrency and will no longer allow you to spend it on things that in their eyes are very very naughty.
Unfortunately, this means they are trying to regulate what is, in fact, something that is supposed to be unregulated. With money and just about anything else, you can do good and bad. But what makes a person in power, or owning a company have the right to decide who does what with their money?
What next, will they try and regulate cash? Are the Bitpay police coming to take me away if I spend money on something they don’t like?
Learning to be free.
Cryptocurrency gives us the chance to take back our freedom, Brexit, is not taking back our freedom or control of our borders or anything else, it’s just transferring it from one group of incompetent politicians to another.
If you want to store my money, that’s fine, but don’t tell me how I can spend it!.
Now at present, I don’t know if they are limiting the use of their wallet or just their payment platform. But to be honest their payment platform is difficult to use anyway – it limits what wallets you can send money from, in its efforts to make it easy to just click and send it ties people into using a pretty simple and unattractive wallet. There are 5 or 6 wallets that work with it, the worst one I tested was the bitcoin.com wallet that simply didn’t work on the mac, you hit send and it just sat there.
If you try and regulate freedom, one of two things happens, some people rebel and others just learn to be slaves.
