Here it is folks, my business Coinbase account, 3 months ago I was having a problem with their website. So much so I just set up another account and that works tickety-boo. To be honest, I’d long forgotten about the support request. Time heals, you’re either healed by the time they check your ticket, or you’ve gone to another wallet.
So why is it so difficult to maintain a support system for a wallet and what does it mean? Really just that they are victims of their own success, or perhaps victims of their own failure to invest in a good it/support system/staff. It’s all very well having a pile of crypto stored on your servers, but if you can’t answer an email within 3 months, that hardly inspires confidence.
It’s better to store in an offline wallet.
Of course, it’s actually better to store your coins in an offline wallet and here’s why. Private keys/Passphrase, online wallets do not give you your private key. So that means if they blow up, get taken down by the “feds”, are hacked, guess what, you can’t restore your wallet. It means those coins are tied to that centralised system. If you have an offline wallet though make sure you back up your private keys/passphrase! In fact, I have 2 live backups of my Mac at any one time, one using an online service and the other onto an external hard drive, plus I have another server with copies of my wallets (and a full Etherium node) running on that is also backed up.
I’m not saying Coinbase is a bad service, you understand, just that if I am going to trust you with a whole load of crypto, then I need to know you’re there to keep me warm when things go bad.
Love you Coinbase.
