Getting into VR – Buy Qualcomm QCOM

What’s the next big thing? Virtual Reality. I have just got myself one of these Oculus Quest 2’s. I love it. I spend a lot of time in a virtual office with 3 virtual screens, big, easy to read ones, floating in the air.

Qualcom

I’m using ImmersedVR as an application but I’ve been researching this whole industry. Facebook that giant of social media has 10% of its resources invested in the industry and owns Oculus, who at the moment, with their Oculus Quest 2 offering at $300 is a market leader in terms of a consumer product that is easy to use and has bundles of software for it. It doesn’t require you to even own a PC to use it.

This week I held my first virtual meeting, it was way better than Zoom, although you can do Zoom meetings in VR using ImmersedVR I much prefer the format. You FEEL like you are in the room with the other people.

So Qualcomm QCOM, it turns out makes stuff for VR headsets. So while investing in the company selling the fishing boats, I am also investing in the company that sells the parts to make them.

The chart is perfect, there’s been a big drop from the high but it’s bounced from a fair price and if it heads back up in this rising wedge is a great investment, but sadly for a couple of months to get there.

The applications for VR are huge:-

  • Virtual Exhibitions
  • Virtual Offices
  • Gaming
  • Education
  • Environmental Savings on not having to produce so many screens

They remove the need to have a desk with 2 screens and with my MacBook pro and headset it really is like I’m working in a much bigger environment. It’s early days for VR. A lot of headsets are very expensive. But the Oculus Quest 2 which I probably work in at least 70% of my time during the day is really great.
