This is a little aside to the normal stuff I post about stocks, but I do love creating graphics. So finding out about NFT’s and sharing art through the blockchain was incredibly interesting. How I could turn my art into a unqiue token on the blockchain, each peice unique and verifiable as coming from me (basically by looking at the transaction history for any peice of art, you can check the creator).
Getting Started with NFT’s
Setting up was pretty straight forward, I set up on OpenSea.io. I had to pay a transaction fee to create my account, this is because my account is essentially a contract on the etherium network, it’s like a live bit of software that sits in the blockchain and knows how to do things like transfering objects etc to other users. Of course, it had to be at the same time that the Etherium gas fee was slightly higher than I would have liked and transactions were taking longer than normal. Hence, here I am at 2am writing my blog post.
I decided to go for a coin design with different themes, so that people can collect my work. I’ve set them all up for auction, although the minium reserve I could set was a spanking 1 eth which works out at a staggering £1800 or so. To be honest, I doubt I’ll get anything near that but I’m just glad to get started with this.
So far, I’ve just had to pay the one off transaction fee to set up – there are commissions taken by the site of around 2.5% from what I can see, so it’s in their interest to help me sell my stuff.
This could be quite a ride or a complete flop. Anyway, I’m going to get on and create more images, or maybe I should sleep. Incidentally I’m not selling more than one of each image.
Could this make me rich? I doubt it, but it’s a crazy experiment that might just help pay for the hosting of this site.
