Stocks to Watch $IBM (International Business Machines)

$IBM (International Business Machines) has literally been around for as long as I have, being the first in desktop PC technology. Although they bought 19% of Lenovo they have been reducing their stock.

So why am I interested? Quantum Computing. The next big thing in computing. I’m hearing that IBM are developing quantum computing and their stock performance at the moment is nice and low as every time they have an earnings report the stock drops. Of course, they pay dividends on the 10th of March, June, September and December. The price is at the lower end at the moment but I see this as a longer-term investment. If they do succeed with quantum computing, in 5 years we could have these machines sitting on our desks, maybe with an IBM badge on the front.

I’m also heavily involved in Linux, specifically Ubuntu Linux on my servers (I look after a few, both rack servers and VPS machines) and POP OS on my desktop – I only use Windows when I REALLY have to. Microsoft IS losing market share to Linux as more and more game producers are eying up the operating system as a great alternative to Windows. It’s free, fast, very stable.

I have a gaming computer that regularly blue screened under Windows despite me updating, installing drivers and changing hardware. Pop os never crashes. My Mac (did you know they run a customised version of BSD Linux?) never crashes. People are fed up with Windows, its expensive, chunky and if you have an older machine, running Pop Linux or Ubuntu, for instance, could give it a new lease of life.   Just make sure the software you need to run works on it. Oh did I say, like the Mac, it comes with FREE office that is Microsoft Office compatible?

Back to IBM – they are heavily invested in Linux. Back in the year 2000 (so long ago!), they invested over a billion dollars (nearly as much as @Elonmusk invested in Bitcoin), into Linux and that has not stopped.

So keep your eyes on Pop OS, System 76 (sadly not publicly listed), IBM, UBUNTU and other companies that are working int he Linux field. I do believe as a 38 year IT professional that ignoring Linux is like ignoring the invention of electricity. It’s a superb, mature operating system that a lot of developers use. If the devs are using it, don’t be surprised if you will too.

Incidentally, I’m now partnering with eToro. I’ll be giving some really basic investing guides in the next week so that anyone even with a really small amount of money to invest each month (£50?) can build a great portfolio. – So good idea to sign up for my invites.
