So yesterday I bought 2 CryptoKitties with a bit of Etherium I had lying around and my 2 cats decided during the night (due to speed problems in the Etherium blockchain), to make the beautiful love ❤️❤️❤️
This morning I awoke to the news that Stripes had been born. Now just stop for a second.
This is money. These cats represent real money. My Generation 2 cat, in a years time will be worth way more than the small amount of Etherium I paid for it. I can guarantee that. But I found something strange happening. Technically I could right now put these cats up for sale and probably make a small profit. But I’ve become emotionally attached to them. I think I’ve become a “virtual cat lady”. This is not only psychologically interesting but also interesting in that I bet I’m not the only one who is not so cold-hearted as to be able to just sell the poor animals.
However, the problems caused for the Etherium blockchain by this “game/secret money making cat thing” could be enormous. As it gains popularity will the blockchain be able to cope with it?
Anytime you do anything with a cat, it’s another transaction with the blockchain, that means more work for miners, and these are mostly small transactions. Last night the fee was up to about 25 Gas (the fee paid for the transaction), that’s a lot for moving a small amount of Ether. So I’ll be interested to see just how things pan out – either the Etherium blockchain mans up or the poor Kitties might find themselves having to wait hours and hours to make passionate love, and I don’t know about you but that would be quite a big turn off for anyone’s love life.
